Job Summary: |
This position performs duties under the general direction of the Transportation Engineering Specialist, Performs journey level engineering duties in the Construction Materials Testing area. Assists in sample preparation for the Construction Materials Proficiency Sample Program to meet the requirements of ADOT's Quality Assurance Plan. Maintains the ADOT CentralLaboratory calibration and verification program to meet the requirements of ADOT Quality Assurance Program. Inspection of ADOT approved laboratories to assure the equipment meets ADOT and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Official (AASHTO) test method criteria. Performs precise repair, maintenance, inspection and calibration of materials
testing equipment involving mechanical, electrical, fluid, and thermal systems. Assists in ensuring ADOT is in compliance with the Arizona Radiation Regulatory Agency licensing guidelines. Maintains accurate and up to date files and records related to materials testing equipment calibrations, inspections, repairs, refurbishing, and transporting.
Job Duties: |
Performs laboratory equipment inspections, calibrations, and repairs as needed.
Review Arizona, AASHTO, and (ASTM) standards, specifications, and testing procedures to determine the calibration procedure and schedule.
Travel statewide to other labs within the State in government vehicle to perform job duties.
Assist with the ADOT Radiation Safety Program to ensure compliance with Arizona Radiation Regulatory Agency guidelines as well as ADOT policies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
KNOWLEDGE
- Civil engineering as applied to construction materials testing, quality assurance, and equipment. ADOT, AASHTO, and ASTM construction materials testing procedures.
- Construction inspection methods, procedures and techniques.
- Federal and State statutes and Agency standards, policies and procedures.
- Radiation safety procedures.
- Machinery repair and calibration.
SKILL
- Various computer programs including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Reading and interpreting specifications and repair manuals.
- Testing equipment and analyzing the results.
- Adjustment, maintenance, and operation of complex machinery and testing equipment.
- Oral and written communication with various levels of ADOT employees, vendors, contractors, and representatives from other government agencies.
ABILITY
- Safely operate a State vehicle on trips of various lengths including trips over 3 hours.
- Operate heavy machinery including electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and manual tools.
- Make precise finite repairs on delicate equipment.
Selective Preference(s): |
Any ATTI certification. Radiation Safety certification from licensed training facility.
Pre-Employment Requirements: |
Arizona driver's license - This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
Must obtain Arizona Technical Testing Institute (ATTI) Field within 12 months of hire.
