Job Summary:

The ALJ Division is the administrative tribunal of the Industrial Commission. Its mission is to resolve all disputes coming before it efficiently and equitably, and has jurisdiction over disputes that arise under the Arizona Workers’ Compensation Act and the Arizona Minimum Wage Act. It is also authorized to resolve disputes referred from other State Agencies.

The purpose of the Administrative Services Officer 3 position is to provide the necessary administrative support for the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Division. The position requires experience in an administrative law judge setting, process management and improvement experience, procurement knowledge, and extensive managerial/supervisory skills.


This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

● This position will supervise the ALJ Divisions’s administrative staff.
● This position is responsible for preparing and administering budget, directing procurement, and overseeing purchasing activities.
● Supervises and participates in complex managerial studies.
● Establishing administrative priorities and appropriate metrics, ensuring that results are properly reported to both superiors and subordinates.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge in
● Knowledge of Arizona Workers' Compensation laws, rules and regulations
● Knowledge of ALJ Division workflows, sequences, and patterns
● Knowledge of Windows, Salesforce, Google, Word, and Excel

Skills in
● Excellent analytical problem solving skills
● Managerial/Supervising
● Oral and written communication skills
● Skill in developing spreadsheets and creating statistical reports

Ability to
● Effectively manage projects and meet deadlines.
● Manage and oversee heavy workload with high level of accuracy and production.
● Solve problems and make decisions, guide and develop staff, mediate and resolve conflict, maintain composure and professionalism.
● Learn, train, and develop new processes and procedures to effectuate the goals and objectives of the division.

Selective Preference(s):

Three years managerial experience in one or more of the functions related to the duties of this class; a Master's degree in business or public administration from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid Arizona class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

You will be eligible to participate in the state employee health/disability insurance plan, and you are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). ASRS participation may begin immediately or upon your 27th week of employment. Contributions are matched by the employer
