| Job Summary: |
This position is responsible for performing defined accounting tasks such as processing deposits, review of remote deposits, inter-agency transfers, intra-agency transfers, encumbrance entries, and correction entries to properly document the fiscal activities of the agency. This position will examine a variety of financial transactions for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position will also assist with reconciling monthly transactions, and compiling data and schedules to ensure accurate and timely data and reporting for presentation analysis of the financial condition of the agency. This position will resolve questions and problems by internal and external customers, public and constituent customers, and identify action(s) to address such issues, including the involvement of other appropriate ADOT groups and functions. This position will also review and update procedural documents as needed.
This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (two (2) days per week in the office/hoteling).

| Job Duties: |
Makes fiscal entries (deposits, inter-fund, intra-funds transfers, and adjustments) and revisions to agency accounts and financial records through the automated accounting system.
Review and verify fiscal documents (transfers, invoices, encumbrances, receivables, and deposits) for accuracy, timeliness, and proper utilization of accounting codes, transaction types, and funds. Assure documents are processed from various state agencies and the department. Corrects accounting codes on fiscal documents ensuring accuracy.
Research, problem solving, and decision making relating to financial matters coming from internal and external customers regarding work methods and processes. Assist employees from all areas, being a source of financial information and providing interpretations as it applies to the department and the State of Arizona.
| Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
Knowledge of:
• Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to understand the difference between various fund types and how they apply to general ledger.
• Know how to classify receipts, expenditure and balance sheet accounts.
• Properly record the journal entries of the Department.
• Understand the process of reconciling revenue, expenditure and balance sheet accounts.
• Knowledge and experience using Automated Accounting Systems to process various types of transfers and corrections.
• Microsoft Office, with extensive knowledge and experience using Microsoft Excel to interpret data (i.e. macros, data validation, formulas, functions).
• Google Suite.
Skill in:
• Analysis, interpretation and communication of financial data.
• Work prioritization, organization and time management; prioritizing tasks effectively to optimize productivity and meet deadlines.
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Oral and written communication.
• Expressing thoughts clearly and persuasively, both verbally and in writing
• Data entry- to record transactions in an automated accounting system (AZ360).

| Selective Preference(s): |
Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting from an accredited college or university; Or a Bachelor's degree in a related field with a minimum of 24 semester hours of accounting courses; or previous relevant work experience.
Considerable experience using automated accounting systems, spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel, and other analytical tools used for reporting, compiling, heavy analysis, comparative analyses, etc.

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
