Job Summary:

The Public Health Paralegal Project Specialist provides comprehensive paralegal support to the General Counsel’s legal team, specializing in projects related to public health law, policy, and initiatives. This role requires a strong understanding of legal research, project management principles, and the ability to work collaboratively with legal professionals, public health experts, and community stakeholders. The specialist will play a crucial role in drafting legal documents, managing project timelines, organizing legal files, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

 

Job Duties:

Document management and office administration including maintaining legal records and case management, preparing reports, and managing disclosure process.

Draft, review, and edit legal documents such as memoranda, reports, contracts, agreements, policies, and correspondence under attorney supervision.

Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, and tracking systems for legal projects.

Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, and document minutes for project-related discussions.

Conduct thorough legal research of statutes, rules, and other legal resources on public health statutes, regulations, policies, and case law.

Liaise with internal departments, external agencies, and community partners on legal and project-related matters.

Other duties as assigned as related to the position (typically 5% - 10%)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

- Strong understanding of legal principles, research methodologies, and document drafting.
- Familiarity with public health concepts, terminology, and key public health laws

- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Asana, Microsoft Project) is a plus.
- Proficient in legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and government resources.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex legal information clearly and concisely.

- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
-High level of professionalism, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Selective Preference(s):

A certificate of completion from a Legal Assisting or Paralegal studies program preferred.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Associates degree in Paralegal Studies or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.

Retirement:

To help you build a financially secure future, the State makes monthly contributions to finance your retirement benefit. The State will contribute to the ASRS in an amount equal to your contribution. In other words, you and the State will each pay 50% of the total cost of the benefit. New State employees have a 27-week wait period for contributions to begin.
