| Job Summary: |
Performs a broad scope of high level highway operational duties including scheduling, assigning and overseeing the assigned unit's work crew, inspection of work, training and guiding staff as it relates to tasks such as the operation of motorized vehicles and equipment utilized in highway maintenance with Federal, State, County or private contractors; pavement care and preservation; roadside shoulder restoration and repair; delivery of equipment and materials; snow removal operations; permit compliance; work management reports, inventory and features tracking; data entry; contact oversight; landscape care and preservation; environmental compliance; vehicle and equipment maintenance.
| Job Duties: |
Operates and trains others on truck-mounted and/or stand-alone motorized vehicles, powered and non powered equipment and tools to properly perform assigned work duties which includes the required maintenance checks and minor servicing to comply with laws, rules, policies and procedures. Operates state vehicles and equipment in the course of conducting State business.
Inspects, repairs and trains others on all highway system features, safety and components, makes periodic adjustments, checks for performance and documents status for electronic management and data storage records. System features include but not limited to guardrail, barriers, walls, channels, pavements, drainage structures, pumps, engines and computerized devices.
Maintains maintenance management performance system for assigned unit including computer entry and work report uploads to the main frame, ensuring accuracy and verification of data. Coordinates the processing of the feature inventory data, inputs changes, update and verifies for accuracy. Reviews construction as-builts for new feature items.

Knowledge of:
• Procedures, practices and methods of the operation, preventive maintenance and minor repair of vehicles and equipment used in roadway and roadside operations.
• State procurement policy, Pecos reporting, coding data entry and inventory.
• Customer relations.
• Federal, state and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to work activities, safety practices and public relations.
• Wide-ranging knowledge of materials, equipment and tools used in work activities, established work methods and standards.
• Math, accounting, English, grammar and computer systems.
• Google Workspace.
Skills in:
• Applying and making intermediate level interpretations of federal, state and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to work activities, safety practices and public relations.
• Using proper materials, vehicles and equipment to perform work activities within established work methods.
• Problem solving and in interpersonal relationships.
Ability to:
• Plan, coordinate, analyze and perform multiple tasks.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Comprehend directions and work under stress.
| Selective Preference(s): |
Minimum of 3 years highway maintenance experience.
| Pre-Employment Requirements: |
Arizona Class A Commercial driver's license.
As this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
