| Job Summary: |
Performs an intermediate level of hwy ops duties involving flat sheet and extruded panel signs. Duties include sign fabrication, scheduling crews, training and guiding staff, responding and coordinating after-hours work, participating in the units call-back rotation, operation and training of motorized equipment in the unit, data entry, inspection of signs, assuring safe digging, preparing and inspecting Blue Stake requests.
| Job Duties: |
Directs work for themselves, crew and vendors (when needed) to maintain, install and / or fabricate roadway signs, sign structures and their components as directed by supervisor. Operates and trains others on truck-mounted, and / or stand alone motorized vehicles / equipment and powered / non-powered equipment and tools in order to perform assigned duties.
Schedules and organizes scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of all equipment and tools. Performs and directs maintenance pre-checks and operational / safety procedures for all equipment and tools.
Documents own work as well as crew work when assigned by supervisor in PeCoS, and FIS. Utilizes laptop computer with GPS to access and collect features along the highway. Participates in call-back rotation and responds to call-backs for sign related issues from TOC, Supervision, and other applicable agencies and departments. Operates in accordance with the unit's call-back policy.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Advanced knowledge of procedures, practices and methods of the operations, preventive maintenance and minor repair of vehicles and equipment used in signing and sign fabrication.
- Knowledge of office procedures, PeCos reporting and coding, inventory and customer relations.
- Federal, state and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to work activities, safety practices and public relations.
- Materials, equipment and tools used in work activities and established work methods and standards.
- Procedure and practices established for the work section.
- Knowledge of MUTCD traffic control for work zones.
- Math, accounting, English, grammar, and computer systems.
SKILL IN:
- Skills in applying and making advanced level interpretations of federal, state and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to work activities.
- Safety practices and public relations.
- Using proper materials, vehicles and equipment to perform work activities within established work methods.

ABILITY TO:
- Ability to plan, coordinate, analyze and prepare crew for work away from the yard for a week.
- Determine the need for and schedule equipment for major maintenance; counsel and advise staff in signing work.
- Ability to use hand and foot controls to operate heavy machinery, properly rig a load for a crane, work on heights, work in the heat or cold, to weld, perform multiple tasks, communicate effectively, comprehend directions, and work under stress.
- Analyze job instructions and adapt to terrain and specifications based on available equipment, materials and personnel.
- Ability to do necessary equipment maintenance.
- Understand and safely perform the variety of operations necessary to install and maintain a large structure

ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor certified, aerial lift operator certification - EOTEP.
| Pre-Employment Requirements: |
Valid class A CDL with appropriate endorsements.
This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
