| Job Summary: |
Provides strategic leadership and oversight of audit operations to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and operational requirements. Directs the planning, execution, and quality assurance of audit activities while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Develops and mentors audit staff by delivering training and professional development in auditing standards, regulatory compliance, and accounting principles. Partners with stakeholders to identify potential risks and areas of non-compliance, clearly communicate findings, and implement effective corrective solutions.
This position may be available for remote (hybrid) work within Arizona (# days per week in the office/hoteling).

| Job Duties: |
- Manages and oversees all audit operations in alignment with the Department’s mission and policies. Fosters a diverse, inclusive work environment built on trust, respect, and accountability. Proactively addresses challenges, resolves conflict through collaboration, and makes sound, well-informed decisions that support the effectiveness and integrity of the audit function.
- Provides leadership and oversight for all compliance review activities to ensure adherence to applicable regulations and regulatory requirements. Coordinates and manages the collection, consolidation, and analysis of review information from internal departments, regulatory offices, operational entities, and independent auditors to ensure accurate, timely, and comprehensive reporting.
- Works directly with partners and stakeholders to monitor compliance matters, ensure adherence to approved compliance plans, and address emerging issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Evaluates compliance risk areas and develops comprehensive audit programs and procedures. Directs audit planning and resource allocation, including staff scheduling and assignment of responsibilities. Reviews and assesses audit work to ensure objectives are achieved, findings and conclusions are fully supported, issues are thoroughly investigated, and all audit procedures are properly executed.
- Oversees audits of required tribal contributions to ensure gaming revenue is accurately reported, calculated, and remitted in accordance with applicable regulations and regulatory requirements.
- Leads the review of independent auditors’ work papers and documentation for gaming operations audits. Manages special audits and investigations, including fraud examinations, as requested by the Department.
- Serves as a subject matter expert on financial and audit-related matters during negotiations of regulatory agreements and related regulations. Provides guidance on tribal contributions and accounting issues, and represents the Department in legal proceedings when required. Performs additional duties as assigned by executive leadership.

Knowledge:
Principles and practices of auditing and accounting. Auditing techniques. Auditing techniques in evaluating internal control systems. Techniques in reviewing and analyzing financial data. Computerized products used in accounting systems and processes. Tribal-State Compact and appendices Gaming industry procedures and regulations. Casino operations and technology. Gaming Regulation and/or Operation Principles and practices Microsoft and G-Suite (Google) software. People supervision procedures and techniques. The Arizona Management System.

People management and leadership. Skill in working with people within tribal gaming operations, as well with tribal regulators, gaming manufacturers, distributors and vendors. | Selective Preference(s): |
Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. Minimum three (3) years accounting/auditing experience and/or reviewing and analyzing financial statements. At least one (1) year of supervisory and/or managerial experience preferred. Professional certification (e.g. CPA, CIA, CMA, and CFE) and/or gaming experience is highly desirable.
