We are looking for a compassionate Interment Supervisor. This position is responsible for supervising Interment Caretakers, work/ study program participants, interns, and volunteers while using expert field operations and maintenance skills.

| Job Duties: |
- Provide training and oversight
- Establish work priorities and modify work assignments to ensure efficient and effective field operations
- Standardize maintenance programs and procedures
- Operate State vehicle(s) to include pickup truck with snow plow, operate power equipment to include power mower, leaf blower, mulcher, tractor, excavator, site dumper and other equipment
- Dig grave-sites by hand or using an excavator
- Properly position and operate lowering device over grave, tamps and levels soil, remove excess dirt from grave-site, set headstones and markers, and ensure proper alignment using line and level
- Fill in sunken graves and re-sod
- Clean headstones and markers using power washer
- Perform routine maintenance of grounds to include grass, trees, shrubs, and plants
- Remove snow and ice and use shovels, brooms and de-icing material such as salt, sand, etc.
- Schedule field operations and maintenance activities
- Assign the work of the interment caretakers
- Coordinate activities with service providers such as equipment repair, janitorial services, and pest control
- May assist funeral director in placing casket on bier at committal shelter, removing casket and flower arrangements from committal site to grave-site in an honorable, reverent manner
- Oversee the operation and maintenance for all buildings within the cemetery; ensure that the buildings are clean and in good operating condition
- Serve as irrigation system operator/manager be responsible for the control and movement of all water within the cemetery
- Monitor and document the performance of the system making adjustments, as needed.
- Test and certify (in writing) employees on all equipment to include vehicles, light and heavy equipment, mowers, etc.
- Submit requests for purchases through the states purchasing system as needed
| Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of grounds maintenance
- Principles of management and supervision, specifically in trade positions
- Occupational safety practices and standards
- Use of plumb lines and stakes, sprinkler systems, and water pumps
Skills In:
- Operating 1/2 to 3 ton dump truck
- Operating tractors, backhoes, riding mowers, bush hogs, excavators, site dumper and other equipment used in ground maintenance and burial operations
- Utilization of various carpentry tools and equipment such as a hammer, drill, chainsaw, weed whacker, push mower, etc.
- Use of a desktop or laptop computer and associated software and programs, e.g., Microsoft, Google, AZVETS.
Ability To:
- Work outdoors with associated elements on a continuous basis
- Work independently, under minimal supervision
- Prepare and maintain records
- Interact professionally
- Assist families and the public in locating specific grave-sites
- Learn various types of information systems/databases used by the cemetery
- Learn and implement the Arizona Management System (AMS)
- Perform 1 on 1 coaching
- Learn procedures in performing burials and marker setting
| Selective Preference(s): |
The ideal candidate will possess two years or more experience supervising a crew responsible for providing care and maintenance of a large scale grounds work, gardening, and tree care operation
| Pre-Employment Requirements: |
This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subjected to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Code R2-10-207-12.)
