Job Summary:

This position is responsible for performing a wide range of welds on structural repairs or modifying/up-fit on light/heavy, on/off road vehicles/equipment. Maintain welding materials, supplies, and shop equipment/machines are in safe, operable condition. Accurately and cost effectively evaluate materials/supplies needed to fabricate, modify, and/or repair various automotive assets and/or organizational structural equipment. Ensure fabrications, modifications and repairs are structurally sound and reliable.

Job Duties:

Perform all types of welding and structural welding (plasma; TIG, MIG, Stick, Torch and Spot) to repair/modify/up-fit various types of light/heavy,on/off road vehicles/equipment. Annotate Fleet Focus work order to record tasks completion/labor hours expended and any other Fleet Focus data requirements. Efficiently evaluate what materials/supplies are needed to complete assignments.

Determine appropriate welding techniques/procedures to effectively/safely fabricate, modify or repair various automotive assets and organizational equipment. Assist in assessing, evaluating and updating automotive blueprints/drawings/plans on automotive modifications, fabrications and on new/used automotive up-fitting with various components electrical/mechanical/hydraulic or otherwise.

Assist in product/project designs to improve efficiency, safety and reliability of automotive assets. Operate/maintain metal fabrication machines such as brakes, shears, rolls, drills, saws, punches, grinders and belt sanders. Operate material handling equipment such as shop overhead crane, various types of dollies and fork-lift vehicle. Assist in solving customer complaints and address customer inquiries as needed. Perform shopkeeping duties as directed. Assist in maintaining/annotating applicable welding materials consumption records. Operate vehicle equipment to test usability and to bring to shop.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Various types of welding and the most appropriate applications of each.
  • Proper uses of various metals and welding techniques and procedures best suited to each.
  • General safety equipment and practices associated with the welding trade.
  • Purposes/uses of various equipment structures fabricated, modified, and/or repaired.
  • Materials, supplies, and tools needed to fabricate, modify, and/or repair various equipment structures.
  • Diagnosis and repair procedures.
  • Equipment management principles.
  • Record keeping.
  • Computer equipment; Fleet Management Systems and database management principles.

SKILLS IN:

  • Using various welding equipment, including oxyacetylene, electric arc, heliarc, and Metal Inert Gas (MIG) and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding process.
  • Fabricating, modifying, and/or repairing various equipment/structures based on plans, blueprints, sketches, and/or verbal instructions.
  • Using a variety of metal fabrication tools/equipment, including grinders, presses, brakes, and rollers.
  • Basic record keeping and inventory control.
  • Estimating cost of repair maintenance work for a wide variety of automotive and heavy construction equipment.
  • Estimating parts/material needs for various types of projects.

ABILITY TO:

  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships..
  • Utilize a PC and PC programs such as Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
  • Lift, carry 50lbs and push/pull 90 pounds and pass a physical exam.
  • Four years of journey level experience as a Welder.
Pre-Employment Requirements:

Driver’s License -  This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

American Welding Society certifications in D9.1 GMAW, D1.1 SMAW or FCAW, B2.1 GTAW, D1.2 GMAW, and D9.1 GTAW are required within 12 months of employment.
