| Job Summary: |
Join ADCRR as an Equipment Repair Technician and put your technical know-how to work in a role that makes a difference. You’ll help keep Arizona’s fleet safe, reliable, and ready for the road while training and supporting inmate staff in valuable hands-on skills.
You’ll inspect vehicles and equipment, guide quality repairs, and promote a safe, well-organized shop. You’ll also help coordinate preventive maintenance, manage parts and inventory, support purchasing and maintain accurate records.

| Job Duties: |
- Trains, coordinates and supervises working inmate mechanics
- Analyses repair work needed, sets repair priorities and determines if the vendor's repairs are needed
- Conducts vehicle inspections
- Determines which repair parts, supplies and accessories are needed and prepares purchase orders for those items for final approval and processing
- Validates data entry in the department's automated fleet management program. - Ron Turley Associates (TA). Including but not limited to Work Orders, Fuel Logs, Inventory records and PM scheduling
- Maintains complete inventory of all parts, supplies and tools
- Stay abreast with the latest technology to update skills through training, seminars, classes and printed materials
| Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
Knowledge of:
- Power/drive train system inspections and diagnoses
- Repair procedures of electrical systems, inspections, and diagnoses
- Electrical/electronic controls
- Hydraulic system inspections
- Diagnosis, repair procedures, and operating principles of gasoline and diesel-fueled internal combustion engines
- Principles and practices of scheduled preventive maintenance programs
- Automotive/truck and heavy equipment operating procedures
Skill in:
- Using computerized diagnostic analyzer equipment to troubleshoot and repair electric, electronic, and mechanical systems
- Using a wide variety of specialized tools and equipment to service, repair, and maintain the automotive, truck, and heavy construction equipment
- Preparing accurate repair estimates and establishing the best and most effective course of repair action
- Using the repair, service, and overhaul manuals
- Performing quality control inspections
- Estimating time and material costs of repairs on equipment
- Utilizing computerized maintenance management and information systems
- Use of personal computers and various software to include Google Workspace to include Sheets, Docs, Gmails, Slides, Chat and Google Meets
Ability to:
- Lift/Carry up to 50lbs
- Push/Pull up to 50lbs
- Walk/Run up 0.50 miles
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and electronic hydraulic system problems
- Perform safety and preventive maintenance inspections
- Overhaul, repair, and service a wide variety of automotive and heavy construction equipment
- Follow and effectively communicate verbal and written instructions
- Prioritize, schedule, and track repairs and services for a large fleet operation
- Comprehend and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Work in a prison environment
| Selective Preference(s): |
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification in at least two categories
- Possess Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS)-Air Conditioning Certification
- Five years of continuous working experience at a Journeyman level as an automotive or heavy truck, heavy equipment mechanic
- Within the first year from hire, be able to acquire a DOT Brake Inspector Certification and the DOT commercial Vehicle Inspector Certification.
