Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Instructor include, but are not
limited to:
• Develop lesson plans and deliver instruction that supports student learning and skill development
• Prepare and distribute course syllabi, instructional materials, and resources for students.
• Deliver engaging classroom instruction and hands-on lab training using interactive lessons and real-world exercises to enhance student learning.
• Ensure all instructional materials and lab equipment are functional and ready for use before class.
• Organize and deliver instruction to maximize student comprehension and engagement
• Supervise and guide students in hands-on lab activities, ensuring safety and skill competency.
• Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, grades, and materials, using a computerized learning management system.
• Assess student performance and provide timely feedback to support learning.
• Utilize technology to manage records, communicate, and enhance instruction.
• Hold office hours for student consultations and academic support.
• Keep appropriate records of testing and grading, as per college standards.
• Foster student discipline and maintain a positive classroom environment.
• Assist students with career planning and job placement.
• Oversee lab equipment maintenance and ensure a safe and functional learning environment.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized HVAC lab environment.
• Promote and recruit students for the HVAC program through outreach, information sessions, and community engagement.
• Ensure compliance with program certification requirements
• Cultivate professional industry relationships through visits and advisory committee meetings.
• Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and certifications.
• Adhere to institutional policies and meet state educational standards.
Minimum Qualification:
• A Baccalaureate degree in the discipline and at least two (2) years of directly related occupational experience, OR
• An associate degree in the discipline and three (3) years of occupational experience and skill in the teaching discipline with verifiable academic credentials, qualifications, or competencies appropriate for teaching the course content*, OR
• A relevant diploma or certificate in the discipline and four (4) years of occupational experience and skill in the teaching discipline with verifiable academic credentials, qualifications, or competencies appropriate for teaching the course content *, OR
• At least five (5) years of occupational experience and skill in the teaching discipline with verifiable qualifications or competencies appropriate for teaching the course content*.
*Academic coursework, work experience, licenses, certifications, credentials, competencies, or other experiences appropriate for teaching the course content must be documented and justified.
**Faculty must additionally demonstrate steady progress to attain an associate degree to be considered for continued employment. Steady progress is defined as the successful completion of at least one college course per semester, including the summer, or nine credits per academic year.
Preferred Qualification:
• Experience in Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems
• Teaching experience in post-secondary education is preferred.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Experience with, or willingness to learn, Learning Management Systems (LMS)
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and carry HVAC equipment weighing between 10-50 lbs.
• Capability to stand for extended periods during lectures or demonstrations.
• Strong manual dexterity to demonstrate hands-on skills effectively.
• Ability to kneel, bend, or squat for system installation and troubleshooting tasks.
• Clear vision and hearing for detailed work and system diagnostics.
Work Environment:
• Primarily work in climate-controlled classrooms during lectures.
• Hands-on labs and workshops requiring the use of safety gear, with exposure to noise.
• Work with electrical systems and heavy machinery in varied conditions.
• Adherence to safety protocols is essential at all times.
