The Assistant Accountant role is based at Whiddon Support Services in Glenfield and forms part of the Finance (Revenue) team. This position plays an important role in supporting revenue operations across the organisation, ensuring accurate client billing, funding reconciliations, revenue reporting, and financial administration. You will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to support efficient revenue processes and help maintain compliance with legislative and organisational requirements. 

ABOUT YOU 

You are tertiary qualified in Accounting, Business or Finance and you come with a strong understanding of accounting principles, month-end processes, reconciliations, and reporting. You are experienced in accounting, revenue services, accounts receivable or similar financial roles (aged care preferred).  

You come with demonstrated leadership and coaching skills with a desire to develop these further, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and strong finance, reconciliation and systems abilities. Experience with aged care legislation, bulling rules and funding structures (Residential, HCP, SAH, NDIS) is highly desirable. You have demonstrated experience in general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations, strong analytical skills and ability to interpret financial data, along with experience with month-end journals, accruals and adjustments.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

Key responsibilities of this role include: 

  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with service managers, coordinators, revenue staff and corporate teams, providing professional financial support and advice on billing, funding and revenue-related matters. 

  • Preparng monthly revenue and balance sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals, reclassifications and other month-end accounting activities across multiple funding streams and service programs. 

  • Supporting the integrity of revenue and billing data through reconciliation, validation and analysis, investigating variances and identifying trends, risks and opportunities for improvement. 

  • Assisting with revenue forecasting, scenario modelling, financial planning and the preparation of management reports, KPI reporting and revenue analysis to support decision-making. 

  • Contributing to revenue optimisation by monitoring financial performance, identifying process improvements and developing tools, templates and reports that enhance efficiency and accuracy. 

  • Supporting debtor management activities, including monitoring overdue accounts, maintaining accurate records, identifying high-risk debt and escalating issues where appropriate. 

  • Liaising with residents, families, solicitors, government departments and external agencies regarding funding, fees, accounts and complex debtor matters as required. 

  • Maintaining strong internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards, organisational policies, legislative requirements and audit obligations. 

  • Preparing supporting documentation, work papers and schedules for audits, statutory reporting and management review, including variance commentary and financial insights.
