The basics of this position:

The Technician, Laboratory performs duties necessary to assist instructors in the development, testing, and application of equipment or experiments for laboratory use.
This position will perform duties necessary to assist instructors in the development, testing, and application of equipment or experiments for laboratory use. Some major task include preparing, setting up and maintaining the WW science labs, monitoring the lab equipment, preparing media and solutions, culture and monitoring, ordering lab supplies and keeping track, supervising and ensuring lab safety issues along with other duties related to the lab.

What you'll do:

  • • Ensures that the Division/Department has an adequate supply of equipment and components in the labs to allow students and instructors to perform experiments in a smooth and orderly fashion
    • Provides safe and clean laboratories to ensure student safety
    • Maintains operating and repair supplies to ensure proper maintenance operation of the Division/Department equipment and instrumentation; receives, calibrates, and installs newly purchased instruments and equipment
    • Provides technical assistance to instructors and students to ensure a high-quality learning environment
    • Supervises student workers whose duties are to assist in lab setup, lab cleanup, and general maintenance
    • Reviews and prepares each lab for required equipment and solutions; communicates with professors regarding set-up preferences
    • Orders chemicals and apparatus needed for experiments and handles procurement and inventory of laboratory supplies
    • Performs administrative and accounting tasks related to lab operations
    • Additional duties as assigned

Education, experience, and other requirements:

• Associate degree in a related field with 0 - 2 years of experience or;
• High school diploma or equivalent with over 1 year of laboratory work experience
• Must maintain a valid certification (after hire date ) or have biohazard training and lab technician experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in microbiology and chemistry lab preparation.
