The basics of this position:

Florissant Valley Science Department at St. Louis Community College is seeking a full-time, temporary faculty members for the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters. This position will serve in the Science Department teaching Introductory Biology and Anatomy and Physiology courses. The successful candidates will teach lecture and laboratory classes to a diverse group of students in face-to-face and hybrid formats. We are looking for educators who use varied teaching techniques to develop critical thinking skills, support student success, and are committed to student advising and departmental activities.

What you'll do:

  • Full-time Faculty duties and responsibilities normally include:
    • Providing formal course contact teaching hours of 15 credit hours each fall and spring semester.
    • Engaging students in a variety of learning environments, developing interactive course content, and utilizing learning technologies effectively
    • Preparing and planning for instruction of assigned classes in accordance with course objectives
    • Preparing, assessing, and correcting examinations and other student work assignments and providing assessment and feedback to students
    • Scheduling student conferences to review individual student progress
    • Assisting in student academic advisement
    • Participating in departmental selection of course texts, instructional equipment, library books, classroom supplies and materials, and non-print resource materials
    • Participating in departmental development, evaluation, and revision of course objectives and outlines, instructional strategies, and systems of evaluation and assessment of student learning
    • Attending faculty and institutional meetings
    • Participating in departmental, divisional, campus, and college-wide service

    Other responsibilities or assignments of full-time instructional faculty may include:
    • Assisting part-time faculty
    • Assisting with student recruitment
    • Assisting with student job, internship, or workplace learning placement
    • Supporting the Curriculum and Assessment and Registrar Departments with articulation and transfer review, course equivalency review, or other course-specific information
    • Sponsoring student activities, groups, or clubs
    • Attending institutional ceremonies or events
    • Participating in community activities
    • Participating in professional development activities
    The College reserves the right to assign other normal professional responsibilities as may be appropriate.

Education, experience, and other requirements:

• Master’s degree in Biology or Master’s degree with at least thirty (30) approved graduate semester hours in the subject or related fields.
• Bachelor’s Degree with major in Biology and two (2) years of full-time college teaching experience, and one (1) year of related full-time work experience; or Bachelor's Degree with major in Biology and four (4) years of full-time related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with previous teaching experience, particularly at the community college or secondary level. Ideal candidates will also have demonstrated experience teaching in various modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online), applying active and experiential learning techniques, and developing and assessing student learning outcomes. A strong commitment to ongoing professional growth, along with graduate-level coursework in education, is also highly desirable.
