Job Description:

The primary responsibility of the Associate Network Engineer is to implement, troubleshoot, manage, and enhance the various components of UT’s data network. The Associate Network Engineer installs, maintains, and documents network components to support the campus and remote data networking needs. Under the guidance of senior Network team personnel and supervisors, the Associate Network Engineer works with customers, IT teams, other UT technology providers, and vendors to support and implement various network-based services.

This position participates in small to medium network projects under the direction of senior Network personnel staff members. The position performs follow-up activities to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction are maintained.

All members of the University Network team rotate on-call responsibilities to ensure high availability of the University’s network and systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

o Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant area of study (i.e., Computer Science, Electronics, Information Systems, etc.) is required. Other areas of study will be considered with relevant experience.
o Experience in the areas of server administration, systems management, and network management.
o One year of network hardware setup experience in an enterprise environment.
o Detailed knowledge of current Microsoft operating systems and basic understanding of other operating systems.
o Demonstrated proficiency and understanding of TCP/IP, OSI model, routers, switches, wireless equipment, and structured cabling.
o Proficient in use of network documentation tools
o Valid automobile drivers license.


• Preferred or Beneficial
o Experience in an enterprise environment.
o Experience working in either a healthcare or academic environment.
o Ability to utilize network diagnostic tools such as OTDR’s, cable testing equipment, and packet decoding analyzers.
o An associate level certification or above (i.e., CCNA, JNCIA).

o Strong customer relationship building focus.
o Ability to communicate effectively with customers, peers, and supervisory staff is essential.
o Punctuality, regular attendance, and dependability.
o Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
