Job Description:

Actively participates in keeping the University of Toledo safe, clean, attractive, and maintained. Performs grounds maintenance duties including plant, weed, clean flower beds, fertilize, mow, trim and edge lawns. Applies insecticides to lawns, shrubs, and trees. Performs routine grounds maintenance and general labor e.g., removes snow and applies alt to ice; maintains parking lots & streets; and assists with minor building construction.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent GED.
• Must have 6 months of training or 6 months experience in grounds maintenance or working as a Groundskeeper 1
• Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to apply mathematical functions to calculate area, volume, ratios, and application rates.
• Ability to work alone with minimal supervision. Ability to plan, layout, select appropriate tools and perform groundskeeping tasks in an efficient manner.
• Ability and willingness to work overtime.
• Maintains a valid driver’s license and must be insurable under the University of Toledo’s driving policies. Valid commercial driver’s license required if motor equipment is of type and size regulated by Section 4506.01 and 4506.12 of the Ohio Revised Code.
• Ability to pass required health and safety tests as required by the University of Toledo such as respirator fit, heart stress and pesticide screenings.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio Pesticide Applicator’s license.
