As the head scenic charge, you will lead the production scene shop staff and students in painting, detailing, and finishing of all scenic elements as directed by the production technical director and production design teams. In this position you will interpret design schematics and reference documents to plan appropriate painting and finishing techniques, demonstrate proper paint and finish techniques and applications to student employees, and lead other department staff in the installation and removal of all scenic and properties elements of all SFLM productions. Responsibilities include developing and deploying safety training and certification programs for student involvement, maintaining the production scene shop’s inventory, and maintaining a safe work environment by enforcing OSHA and SCAD regulations. Additionally, you will aid in the loading, unloading, delivery, installation, and removal of all scenic properties and lighting elements for all SFLM productions.

Minimum Qualifications:      

  • Previous professional experience as a scenic charge artist with a thorough portfolio presentation demonstrating utilization of color, texture, and technique
  • Knowledge of scenic art techniques including color mixing and color theory, faux finish techniques, physical texture applications, and foam carving
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, efficiency, multitasking, and ability to prioritize and motivate with a strong attention to detail
  • Previous experience teaching new or different painting techniques to scenic artists
  • Working knowledge of safety standards and implementation with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:      

  • OSHA 10-hour certification
  • OSHA Boom/Scissor Lift certification

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  

  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid Class "C" Georgia driving license

Travel Required:  

  • Less than 10%  

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
