As a carpenter, you will handle all major and minor building maintenance and repairs, including tasks related to roof framing, soffit, and fascia. You will read and interpret construction drawings, complete assigned work order requests, and use the system to document problems needing correction. Responsibilities include the operation of various hand tools and power equipment; the completion of inspections and repairs on signs, bulletin boards, and other building features; and coordination with different areas of physical resources for repairs that require assistance. Among other duties, you will be on-call to manage emergencies, informing your supervisor when situations need help from other crafts. Additionally, you will follow all SCAD, OSHA, and PPE safety policies and procedures and adhere to local building codes. You will also follow proper communication channels and work in a safety-focused manner.
The ideal candidate can follow building plans and demonstrate knowledge of the proper operation of shop equipment. The candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor to work well with others.
Minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), two to five years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor and stand, bend, and lift 80 lbs. in various weather conditions
- Experience with rough carpentry in wood and metal, finish and trim carpentry, cabinetry, and other related areas
Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass DOT medical exam
Travel required:
- 10–20%
Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
