SCAD Savannah seeks an accomplished full-time Professor of Art History with advanced expertise in the Ancient World, open to any geographic region, to inspire the next generation of creative professionals. The ideal candidate will bring deep scholarly knowledge with a global perspective to the classroom, enabling students to investigate and interpret the complex relationships between historical context and cultural production. The ability to teach global art history survey courses with confidence and breadth, in addition to specialized courses in their area of expertise is essential.

As a SCAD professor, you will shape the academic journey of exceptional students through dynamic, research-driven instruction that emphasizes critical inquiry, visual analysis, and interpretive rigor. Joining the largest full-time art history faculty in North America, you will contribute to a vibrant intellectual community that explores artistic expression from antiquity through the modern era. You will also enhance student learning with opportunities to engage with visiting scholars, participate in critiques and portfolio reviews, and build meaningful professional connections across creative industries.

Faculty responsibilities include all duties outlined in the SCAD Faculty Handbook, such as course planning and preparation; syllabus design, submission, and approval; maintaining an active and engaging classroom environment; holding office hours and midterm grade reviews; and offering supplemental learning opportunities, including field trips and extended-learning sessions. You will assess course and program outcomes, provide thoughtful and timely feedback, and support students’ academic and professional development.

The successful candidate will foster a learning environment that encourages creative inquiry, analytical thinking, and a deep curiosity for artistic and cultural traditions. Through coursework, mentorship, and individualized support, you will guide students in exploring both historical and contemporary modes of cultural expression.

Additional responsibilities include modeling professionalism; fulfilling grading and academic documentation requirements; recording attendance; adhering to academic policies; and supporting institutional assessment and accreditation efforts. Faculty participation in on-ground and virtual events—such as meetings, admission events, curriculum development, exhibitions, and other college-wide initiatives—is expected. Other duties may be assigned.
