As an assistant manager of operations and student docents, you will work with the manager of visitors and the museum operations team to align visitor expectations with the museum's mission and vision. You will hire, train, and supervise a highly motivated and energetic student staff, providing daily support and facilitating museum tours. You will also implement start-of-day and end-of-day procedures and manage tour reservations for faculty and staff, proactively responding to inquiries and messages. In doing so, you will serve as a role model for students. You will set expectations and standards of behavior for tours, the front desk, Tad Café, Gutstein Gallery, and any other assigned spaces.

In this role, you will manage the museum's academic wing, calendar, and reservations. You will coordinate events and handle hardware and software issues in classrooms and computer labs. You will maintain functionality and cleanliness through regular building rounds and security checks and initiate work orders for the museum, classrooms, and courtyard spaces as needed. You will also monitor building conditions, address visitor and faculty needs, and coordinate immediate housekeeping and security needs.

In this position, you will lead tours and provide information to guests. Responsibilities include engaging visitors in positive conversations about museum collections, exhibitions, and programs through research and educational opportunities. You will maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues in other departments who regularly interact with the museum. Additionally, you will support the manager of museum visitation and programming by assisting with daily and special events.

The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational, time-management, and interpersonal communication skills. They demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, strong professional verbal and written skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. The candidate can prioritize and multitask, consistently delivering high-quality, accurate work. They can also work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision. The candidate displays good judgment and makes appropriate decisions in the performance of duties.

Minimum qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree, at least one year of related experience and training, or the equivalent combination of both
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
