As the dean of the School of Creative Technology, you will lead a team of faculty, academic program leaders, and staff to advance the university’s mission, vision, and values. You will provide vision and direction, develop strategy, and implement programs in your assigned areas of study across all university locations to enhance the school’s reputation for academic excellence. Responsibilities include oversight and evaluation of academic program leaders and the assurance that all academic offerings and services of the school are planned and delivered at the highest quality, without interruption. Among other duties, you will closely collaborate with academic services and associate deans on curricular development, student learning, academic assessment, and faculty development.

In this role, you will support academic excellence, instructional quality, and instructional engagement, as evidenced by student achievement results and work outcomes. You will oversee the implementation of university policies and procedures, lead faculty and academic program leaders, and ensure that teaching and professional responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the Faculty Handbook. Similarly, you will ensure that academic quality standards align with accreditation criteria and collaborate with associate deans at the appropriate level, content, and instructional method.

In this position, you will support academic hiring by participating in faculty recruitment trips, interviews, and candidate presentations. In doing so, you will follow the university’s hiring policies and procedures, including the submission of anticipated headcount needs, candidate reviews, and hire recommendations. You will also identify and cultivate new talent and program leaders. As needed, you will consult with academic leaders at other university locations on hiring needs and decisions. Among other duties, you will follow university policies to manage the school budget, exercising oversight and control over departmental expenditures. Likewise, you will review, evaluate, and approve purchase and travel requests.

As a dean, you will meet with students as needed to resolve academic concerns and support faculty and students in scholarly and creative activities. You will foster a climate that encourages interdisciplinary learning, supports collegiality, and promotes intellectual inquiry. Responsibilities include curricular and program development and assessment in accordance with university policies and procedures, and the approval of all curriculum proposals for the assigned school. Among other duties, you will request input from the associate dean and academic program leaders on curriculum changes, coordinate with faculty and program leaders to collect student work for assessment and accreditation, and showcase the program's outcomes.

In this role, you will prepare quarterly and annual ad hoc reports and regularly monitor departmental achievements to guide academic program leaders toward excellence and maximum efficiency. Among other duties, you will review staff requests and proposals for content, alignment with strategic priorities, and adherence to university policies, procedures, and guidelines. Similarly, you will anticipate trends and recommend strategies to implement new or existing trends in academic programs and services.

Additionally, you will work with administrators to further advance services and resources dedicated to teaching and learning. This responsibility includes forging and maintaining new partnerships with professional and academic organizations and the industry. You will also provide unconditional support to achieve success in all accreditation matters and serve as a frontline ambassador for your assigned school, promoting it at every opportunity. You will also perform assigned teaching duties. You will properly administer the school’s budget and resources. You will also ensure the school’s intentional and measurable contribution to the university’s strategic plan and the 8Rs (responsibility, resources, recruitment, retention, recognition, revenue, research, and results).

The ideal candidate demonstrates exemplary personnel and fiscal management capabilities as well as outstanding interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. They understand current technologies and can lead in the use of educational technology.
The candidate has a thorough understanding of program assessment strategies and strategic planning. The person in this position has experience in higher education, curriculum development, and the use of assessment to improve student learning and academic programs. They are skilled at working with external organizations, including businesses and industries, government agencies, and accrediting bodies. This person can conduct thorough, thoughtful, and fair faculty evaluations, define the department's needs for new faculty hires, and make personnel judgments to recommend hiring and reappointment.

Regarding students, the individual can make fair decisions in the students' best academic interests regarding various waivers and expectations. They can document those decisions in an annual accountability report. The individual is willing to collaborate with the admission team on the recruitment and review of students with career planning and placement in mind. They will work with other academic and nonacademic departments in the best interests of students and the university. Additionally, they demonstrate keen attention to detail and to deadlines in both course and classroom scheduling.

Minimum qualifications: 
• Terminal degree (Ph.D. or a master’s) in the discipline or a relevant field
• Academic and professional credentials to teach in the discipline
• Two years of work experience in a related profession OR post-secondary teaching experience
• Previously successful career as a faculty member with a reputation for high academic standards and innovation in curriculum and pedagogy

• Significant classroom and administrative experience and a distinguished record of scholarship and creativity

Preferred qualifications:
• Industry, business, or professional experience in a related discipline
• Demonstrated success in fundraising and grant development
