As a detail-oriented member of the legal administration team at SCAD Atlanta, you’ll handle assets used in projects produced by and for SCAD and manage the university’s extensive trademark portfolio. Reporting to the associate general counsel, you’ll provide professional legal support services to the SCAD legal team, including processing form agreements and managing the overall workflow.

As a clearance and trademark manager, you’ll:
• Process legal templates and completed agreements and manage the team’s email account
• Analyze clearance needs for media assets for marketing, promotional, and other content; secure permissions from rights holders; and retain, organize, and file all relevant documentation
• Establish relationships with popular footage, stills, music, and archival media suppliers
• Manage the clearance acquisition process; maintain binders for all SCAD productions; and ensure all clearance data and backup documentation are accurate and organized

To carry out the vision of the university, you’ll:
• Promptly analyze and respond to various requests for review of content and other associated materials
• Maintain an ongoing, high-level of familiarity with evolving internal content
• Quickly identify and distill clearance issues to production counsel and producers
• Obtain and file all appropriate releases; advise, review, and approve all clearances for, and all uses of, SCAD content; and share clearance expiration dates with appropriate personnel
• Serve as SCAD’s primary internal contact for guidance on copyright status in university-produced content

Additionally, you’ll:
• Direct, manage, and oversee the core functions of trademark portfolio operations
• Implement global trademark-related initiatives; manage a database containing all completed and pending trademark matters; and oversee trademark application processes at the United States Patent and Trademark Office
• Manage foreign filings and coordinate with overseas trademark agents on applications
• Oversee clearance operations and high-volume release workflows for SCAD events and festivals
• Secure comprehensive rights for global promotional, marketing, and archival use across all media

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
• An inclination toward creativity to assess and identify options for producers and others seeking visuals for content
• Strong organization, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with creating and changing templates
• Knowledge of TV, film, and music personalities, pop culture, and current events
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where meeting deadlines is a priority

Candidates should be:

• A fast learner

Minimum qualifications:     
• Bachelor’s degree and a background in online research as well as TV and film production
• At least five years of experience identifying and clearing digital and print content
• Experience with the trademark registration process
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
• Successful completion of a background check

Preferred qualifications:     
• At least three years of experience with trademark registrations
• Legal experience analyzing and applying basic legal principals
• Experience working with legal forms and rights and clearances management systems

Travel required:
• 10–20%

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
