Position Summary: The Academic Fellow will work in the law school as part of the Academic Enrichment programming. Fellows staff office hours to be available to help other law students, usually 1Ls, refine skills needed for law school success. Fellows occasionally undertake special projects for the Assistant Director or Director of the Academic Enrichment and Bar Pass programs.
Essential Functions:
-Attend training sessions with other Academic Fellows.
-Staff brief shifts in an approved location (2.5 hours per week).
-Communicate regularly with students and faculty about skill development.
-Obtain and maintain familiarity with the resources available to support legal studies that are included as part of tuition dollars and related fees.
-Participate in orientation for new law students.
-Meet with individual or small groups of law students to discuss learning strategies, note taking techniques, class preparation strategies, exam preparation techniques, outlining, and communicating legal analysis according to the conventions of the various genres of legal writing.
-Complete special projects for the full-time personnel of the Academic Enrichment and Bar Pass programs.
-Perform additional job related duties as assigned.
-Grade and provide constructive feedback on new student orientation essays.
Non-Essential Functions:
-Maintain the professional appearance of the Fellows designated workspace.
-Filing, typing, and answering phone.
Required Qualifications:
Must be enrolled in the WU Law School, 2nd and 3rd year student.
-Professionalism.
-Ability to maintain confidentiality.
-Ability to interact with other students.
-Computer/keyboarding skills.
-Excellent grammar, written and verbal communication.
-Interpersonal skills.
-Ability to multi-task.
-Understand legal terminology.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in mentoring, tutoring, or providing educational content.
