This position performs the duties of a Carpenter.
Essential Functions:
• Employees are expected to use equipment to manufacturer and University standards and to comply with University and OSHA policies and regulations.
• New employees must complete safety training within 6 months of hire.
• As assigned or requested via work orders, construct, repair and maintain structures such as furniture, partitions, walls, platforms, paneling, siding, window frames, stairways, doors and door frames and other structures using hand and power tools and performing a variety of construction duties, including but not limited to carpentry, plastering, ceiling tile and grid repairs; roof repairs such as wooden trim, soffit or shingle roof tiles; floor repair such as install small quantity of floor tiles or patch floor tiles; and masonry and minor demolition.
• Review building plans, blueprints, sketches, etc., estimate and requisition type and quantity of materials required to complete projects.
• Work with other facilities and University staff, offices, etc. to coordinate activities to accomplish carpentry work.
• Install and maintain doors.
• Maintain and repair locks on doors, windows and furniture.
• Record and document completed tasks using Computerized Maintenance Management System software.
• Inspect completed work for quality standards, code and regulation compliance.
• Recommend work process improvements to Facilities supervisors and administrators.
• Assist with general maintenance activities as assigned.
• Provide service support for campus events.
• Maintain a professional, safe and clean work area.
• Snow removal duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Formal training in Carpentry.
• 5 years of experience working as a Carpenter.
• Stable/Continuous work history.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to read and apply information from schematics and building blueprints.
• Ability to move and/or maneuver equipment and materials weighing as much as 50 pounds.
• Ability to work from a ladder and/or a lift.
• Ability to respond to emergency service calls outside regularly scheduled work hours.
• Valid Kansas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record under University standards.
Physical Requirements:
• Skills as a locksmith.
• 4 years of experience in Building Trades.
• Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
Hourly, Full-time, Mon-Fri, 8am-4:30pm
