Position Title: Upward Bound Student Leader Supervisor - Residential

Advertised Pay: $3,150.00 for the seven week program plus the program pays for room, board, and weekly field trip travel expenses, including all admission fees.

Special Instructions to Applicants: Successful applicant must pass a fingerprint background check by May 27, paid for with WUB funds and complete CPR, First Aid, and AED training, paid for with WUB funds.

Position Summary: Upward Bound is looking for a student supervisor to facilitate the academic, social and cultural enrichment of high school participants by supervising the residential staff who act as mentors, role models, and guides to participants attending a six week residential summer camp on Washburn's campus.

Essential Functions:
-Live in residence hall, providing supervision to residential student leaders and all program participants in general. Assist residential staff in establishing and maintaining positive, respectful, mentoring relationships with assigned group in particular and all other participants. Develop, implement, and supervise a six-week schedule of recreational and social activities. Supervise entire population during short and extended field trips.

-Establish positive relationships with parents/guardians of program participants. Assign duty roster responsibilities (dining hall supervision, on-call duty, hall duty, supervising evening activities, miscellaneous errands, etc.). Conduct weekly meetings with summer student leader staff to implement activities that increase group cohesion, address particular group concerns, and promote open communication. Assist in planning and implementing weekly dorm meetings with program participants.

-Clarify, monitor adherence to, and enforce UB and Washburn University program policies and procedures with particular attention to rules governing student conduct. Conduct fire drills, tornado drills, building and room inspections, and ID checks. Monitor visitor access to residence hall as well as participant movement in and out of the building and between floors. Attend daily meetings with Program Advisor. Conduct weekly staff meetings and nightly updates with student leaders. Collect participant behavior reports from student leaders; submit weekly activity reports summarizing behavior reports. Develop cohesive relationships with the instructors and tutors.

-Assure that participants complete homework. Provide mentoring support in academic classroom, only when invited by the teacher. Assist in monitoring student behavior during on and off-campus activities. Adhere to Washburn University residential living policies and social media policies.

-Other responsibilities as assigned by the Upward Bound Advisor or Program Director.

Required Qualifications:
-Junior class standing at Washburn University by the end of the Spring Term 2025 with a verified 2.50 cumulative GPA.
-Attend Training May 28-30 on Washburn campus; At end of year - Houston, TX Cultural Trip July 11-15 (additional weeks pay of $450 will be added).
-Experience working with high school aged students. Commitment to helping students succeed in higher education.
-English proficiency (verbal, reading, and writing).
-Must be a U.S. Citizen.
-Experience living in a residence hall.
-Demonstrated maturity in use of appropriate leadership, communication, social, and role modeling skills.
-Must be able to work the all training days, 6 weeks of camp, Sunday evening through early Friday afternoon (Participants go home every Friday afternoon and return Sunday evening for dinner and activities).
-Must pass a fingerprint background check, paid for by the program.
-Must be CPR certified. The program will pay for CPR, First Aid, and AED certification. Certifications must be completed before training on May 28.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Managerial experience.
-A valid driver's license with a good driving record.
