Position Summary: The primary function of this position is to verify that all individuals entering the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) meet the requirements for facility access and to oversee the front desk and fitness loft operations. Additionally, SRWC summer staff will provide information concerning the use of the facility as well as SRWC programs and services.

Summer Building Attendants are responsible for providing effective and courteous customer service to patrons of the Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC) and are responsible for assisting in all duties involved with daily operations. This includes the enforcement of policy and procedures, maintaining safety and cleanliness, and providing exceptional service to members and guests. Shifts will consist of 2-4 hours with rotations at the Front Desk and Fitness Loft. This position will also help with the set up and clean up of athletic summer camps.

Essential Functions:
• Ask all patrons attempting to enter the SRWC to present a valid Washburn ID Card
• Check identification cards for proper validation
• Assist and inform patrons on usage and technique of equipment and machines throughout the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
• Demonstrate and explain the execution of various exercise techniques to participants as well as spotting techniques when needed.
• Aid in set-up, operations, and break down of fitness classes, programs, information tables and special events.
• Deny access to individuals who do not qualify for SRWC entry
• Facilitate equipment check-out/in in the absence of an office assistant
• Provide quality customer service by dealing with all individuals courteously and consistently
• Assist patrons by providing information as requested
• Answer the telephone using proper phone etiquette, being as helpful and courteous as possible
• Perform other duties as requested

Non-Essential Functions:
• Organize, maintain, and clean SRWC areas.

Required Qualifications:
Must be a student at Washburn University that is currently enrolled or pre-registered in classes holding at least part-time status
Must have a cumulative 2.0 GPA and maintain throughout employment with the SRWC

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to pick up 50 lbs
Attend all meetings, in-services, and trainings, unless for an academic or military purpose
Not work more than 20 hours in a week while classes are in session. (Applies to all positions within campus employment)
