Position Summary: This role will provide communication support via social media and in-person marketing to students and employers throughout the semester regarding career events and other offerings. The intern will provide administrative and event support for the Career Engagement staff, and will assist in the development of guides and marketing materials for various initiatives. Flexible scheduling is available Monday through Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm; hours will be held in the Career Engagement Office in Plass Learning Resource Center 219. This internship could fit a curricular requirement, if needed.
Essential Functions:
The Career Engagement Office seeks to develop Career Readiness skills in student employees and interns. For each essential function listed below, the connected skill students will develop is listed in parenthesis.
Design new materials for the office in accordance with Washburn branding guidelines.(Technology)
Be present and supportive at career fairs and other events held by the office. (Teamwork)
Work on new projects as determined by the Careen Engagement professional staff. (Teamwork)
Represent Career Engagement at campus and community events. (Professionalism; Career & Self-Development)
Brainstorm and research new ideas and initiatives to bring to WU. (Critical Thinking)
Monitor and post to the Career Engagement social media accounts. (Technology)
Answer the Career Engagement phone line and provide assistance to students and employers. (Professionalism; Communication)
Check in students for appointments and be a front line for everyone who enters the office (Professionalism)
Provide marketing and communication assistance through the rebranding process. (Communication)
Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Time commitment of 12 hours per week during the academic term.
Required Qualifications:
Evidence of strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
Must be enrolled full-time at Washburn University and in good academic standing.
Possess significant attention to detail.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Must maintain a cumulative collegiate GPA of at least 2.75.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference for students that have successfully completed 60 credit hours with at least one semester of course work on campus at Washburn University.
Understanding of social media platforms including, but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X.
Experience in designing graphics and marketing materials.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft systems and email communication.
Willingness to deliver exceptional customer service.
Hourly, Mon-Fri.
