Position Summary: The Building Manager is the primary contact for Memorial Union student staff. This position supervises student staff while the building is open. The Building Manager is the resource liaison to various Memorial Union Departments, public relations, operation and event trouble shooting, building security, facility and event supervisor, BST leader, and mentor.
Essential Functions:
Provide supervision and support assistance to Building Service Team.
Responsible for overall operations and aesthetic appearance of the entire building.
Diagnose, address and respond to all building emergency situations, maintenance concerns, building or equipment damage, and all pertinent activities occurring during work shift.
Educate employees and patrons about proper emergency procedures and ensure that department assistance is consistent with the established procedures.
Serve as the primary service and problem solving contact for university staff, students, and outside customers for events or office space issues within the Union, Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center, Carole Chapel, and Bianchino Pavilion.
Perform all Building Service Team duties when necessary to include:
Complete meeting room set up, tear down, and cleaning.
Collect, setup, and/or connect technology equipment
Troubleshoot issues before and during events
Return facilities to original state by disconnecting/returning equipment to storage
Setup/tear down room sets per setup notes or diagrams provided
Maintain and organize storage areas to include tracking of equipment
Perform general cleaning of equipment and furniture
Perform all custodial and maintenance duties as required for scheduled shifts per the daily duties and standards set by the Memorial Union, Washburn University and OSHA health and safety regulations.
Maintain exterior entrances to facility by removing snow, ice and debris when necessary
Ensure the safety and security of the Union, its employees, and customers through the proper enforcement of all policies and procedures established by the Memorial Union, Washburn University, and the State of Kansas.
Have the ability to communicate effectively, be attentive to detail, follow directions efficiently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and contribute to the overall development of the team.
Performs additional job related duties as assigned.
The building manager has the authority to remedy situations above through utilization of established procedures and protocols.
All the above are per standards or diagrams provided by the Memorial Union Director, Facilities Manager, and University Scheduling Office.
Required Qualifications:
Washburn University or Washburn Technical registered student with at least 6 undergraduate or 5 graduate credits per semester, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and at least 3 semesters of their education remaining.
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to lift and move furniture and equipment up to fifty pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred experience with communication, maintenance, event set up/tear down, customer service and/or custodial duties.
CPR and/or First aid certified
