The School of Nursing is seeking student actors to portray patients in simulated healthcare scenarios.

Essential Functions:
A standardized patient (SP) student actor is a person who has been trained to accurately portray a specific patient role (i.e., symptoms, personality traits, and other characteristics), assess clinical skills and provide constructive feedback about a student's performance during a simulation. In this role, you will receive case materials in advance that must be memorized to create the patient.
SP's participate in providing realistic training environments and in the teaching and feedback for students at Washburn University.
SP exercises are scheduled based on the nursing students' curricular schedules. Dates are provided as far in advance as possible.
Trainings and events occur during the week, Monday-Friday, between the hours of 8am and 6pm. Notice will be provided for scheduling outside of this window.
All SP's are temporary employees of the Washburn University School of Nursing.
Non-Essential Functions:
SP's are matched with cases depending on the schedule and demographic required for various cases.
Required Qualifications:
Current Washburn student.
Has completed SP trainings with Washburn Drama/School of Nursing.
Has scheduled minimum of 1 simulation observation prior to application.
Ability to portray a patient in an accurate and standardized method.
Maintain confidentiality of the simulation and student performance.
Ability to undergo a physical exam (wear a patient gown).
Must be reliable, punctual and flexible.
Conduct excellent communication skills when providing feedback to students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Drama training is preferred. Students interested in this position who have not completed the Washburn Drama training may let Nursing know during the application process.
