General Summary

With the oversight of one or more staff members, provide career related assistance (resume reviews, major exploration, mock interviews, general job search and career planning tips) to prospective, undergraduate and graduate students as well as alumni. Provide assistance to career staff with job fair and event preparation, SOAR, and other student career events, as well as assist with marketing and implementation of events. Support the UACDC at tabling events as a departmental ambassador as well as front desk, and drop-in services as needed. Represent the UACDC at conferences and meetings on or off campus.

Other departmental related duties as required.

Hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm, with some evening and weekend hours required. Workload will not exceed 20 hours per week. Graduate Assistants do not work during university authorized student breaks or university closures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

In consultation with one or more staff or faculty members, assist in the support of the affairs of a program, department, office and/or curriculum. Other departmental related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be available 20 hours per week in person.
  • Major in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Educational Leadership or College Counseling preferred.
  • Ability to recruit, train and supervise other graduate students for career drop-in advising.
  • Detail oriented and self -motivated.
  • Organized and able to effectively manage time.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Personable and friendly with strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Superior customer service skills demonstrated through previous customer service employment or volunteer experience.
  • An understanding of the importance of honoring diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Career Development Theory.
  • Knowledge of campus community resources and referral options.
  • Familiarity with social networking is desirable, specifically Facebook Live, Instagram Live, LinkedIn, and TikTok, etc.
  • Familiarity with marketing techniques and/or graphic design experience.
  • Program planning and implementation
