General Summary

Provide leadership; and promote, direct, and coordinate the activities of Michigan SkillsUSA.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate the regional and annual conferences for secondary and post-secondary SkillsUSA organizations, including all related activities
  • Develop working relationships with professional organizations, develop awareness of SkillsUSA, seek sponsorships for organizational activities and raise funds to increase the Project's self sufficiency
  • Consult with teacher education institutions with qualifying programs on in-service and pre-service needs, and provide workshops and training as needed.
  • Plan and conduct leadership development activities for state and chapter officers; and meet with Executive Council, State Advisory Council and other committees regularly.
  • Provide direction for chapter organization and expansion.
  • Provide direction for materials development and public relations.
  • Prepare new chapter advisors to undertake their roles and provide assistance to new chapters.
  • Serve as liaison to the national organization, and coordinate Michigan participation in national and multi-state meetings.
  • Maintain and strengthen a business and industry advisory committee.
  • Manage organization's conference and dues accounts, develop Grant operating budgets and submit required quarterly reports to the State of Michigan Department of Education.
  • Perform related Departmental duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of instruction and curriculum design, principles and procedures, typically acquired through the completion of a Master's degree in Career and Technical Education or a related field, is required.

Provisional/continuing certification, with vocational endorsement related to Career and Technical Education or a related field, is necessary.

Two years' combined teaching and/or organizational activities providing experience in Career and Technical Education and/or sponsorship/program development is necessary.

Knowledge of the operation of national, state, and local Career & Technical Education is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in fund and program development activities is desirable.
