Assistant Counsel in Richmond Campus
The Assistant Counsel, which reports to the University’s Deputy Counsel, provides representation of and legal counsel to the University in practice areas such as, for example, contract, employment, and higher education law. The Assistant Counsel is expected to handle the production of records pursuant to the Kentucky Open Records Act, subpoenas, and other legal orders as well as to serve as the University Counsel’s designee on the Student Assistance and Intervention Team and other University boards, committees, and councils as needed/assigned. Additionally, the Assistant Counsel routinely engages in legal review and interpretation of University Policies and Regulations and provides training and written guidance on legal issues as needed/requested by University constituents.

This position serves as a key intervention specialist, working closely with faculty, academic advisors, financial aid, counseling services, and student affairs to assist students in overcoming barriers to success. By utilizing the CRM (Slate), data and current trends, early alert systems, outreach strategies, and one-on-one coaching, the Transition & Intervention Counselor helps students navigate critical transitions (first-year, transfer, and re-enrollment) through the recruitment and enrollment cycles and provides targeted intervention efforts when students are at risk of disengaging or stopping out.
