About the role
Calvary Hobart, Lenah Valley Campus, in partnership with Charles Sturt University, are offering paid clinical placement positions for a Graduate Diploma in Midwifery, 2025. This is an exciting opportunity to follow your midwifery dream.
 
You will gain experience in antenatal and postnatal care, birth suite and neonatal special care. Calvary Lenah Valley Maternity is a small unit with extensive experience in supporting and mentoring midwifery students and graduates. Our midwives are committed to the midwifery profession and are passionate about ensuring best outcomes for women and their babies while teaching and mentoring the next generation of midwives.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide care under direct and indirect supervision to women and their babies at all stages of pregnancy, labour birth and the postpartum period
  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • To work within your scope as a Registered Nurse and Student Midwife in adherence to Calvary policies and procedures
  • To complete coursework as required by CSU
  • Ensuring that you have allocated time for your Continuity of Care experiences around your 7 day rotating roster and university commitments
About you
  • Desire to work as a midwife
  • Australia citizen or permanent resident
  • Registered Nurse Division 1 with a minimum of 12 months post registration experience
  • Fast track learning capability
  • Ability to attend allocated shifts and manage the theoretical component of the course
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the requirements of the midwifery training program including Continuity of Care experiences
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills that support effective collaboration across the interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated clinical problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated understanding of NSQHS standards and how they relate to care of women and their newborn babies
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role of the midwife in applying work health and safety, infection control and quality improvement principles.
  • Lives in Tasmania
