  • Remuneration: $67.13 per hour + superannuation + annual leave loading + salary packaging options + RDO's.

THE ROLE:

The Nursing Unit Manager is responsible for the provision of leadership and direction to ensure the development and maintenance of a high performing, evidenced based safe and effective Acute Medicine Service. The Nursing Unit Manager will operationalise strategic plans and department direction within Acute Medical Ward, this includes providing operational input into the development of these plans.

Additionally, the Nursing Unit Manager is accountable for the efficient and effective management of the Acute Medical Ward and the integration of nursing practices within Calvary Mater Newcastle.

This position is a leave relief position to commence in April 2025. This will be a fantastic opportunity for someone wanting to build on their clinical leadership, management and patient centred care coordination skills in a supportive acute medical environment.

DUTIES:

  • Provide leadership for Clinical Acute Medical Services within the hospital. This includes promotion of an integrated service within Calvary Mater Newcastle (Nursing Services).
  • Responsible for coordination and performance of the Acute Medical Ward in conjunction with the Operations Manager to ensure service provision, patient assessment, care planning, care coordination and continuing management is in accordance with professional standards and legislative requirements.
  • Participate in and facilitate the promotion of research and evidence based care as appropriate.
  • Participate in relevant clinical network and stream activities, providing professional leadership for nursing Acute Medical Services within CMN.
  • Act as a role model and champion of change by driving the development, implementation and evaluation of contemporary, evidence-based models of care, clinical practices, guidelines and standards that ensure service delivered in the acute medical unit is appropriate, coordinated, safe, efficient, timely and cost effective.
  • Manage nursing professional issues: Ensure that all services provided are in line with current professional standards of practice by providing professional support to senior and junior nursing staff on matters relating to Awards, conditions of employment and WH&S matters.
  • Responsible for the professional development of all nursing staff and unit based administrative staff in the Department; participate in undergraduate, post-graduate, nursing education and training; including effective implementation of CMN Performance Development Program and mandatory education requirements.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Registered Nurse authorised to practice by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Relevant postgraduate management qualifications or experience, or working towards.
  • Nursing Unit Management or In-Charge experience in an acute/subacute facility and or ambulatory setting and ability to work proficiently in periods of high demand and activity.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and manage a team in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial and human resources.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to improving health care through quality improvement and implementation of evidenced based care.
