THE ROLE:
The Patient Services Officer is responsible for delivering courteous, effective, and efficient patient support services. Key duties include retrieving and managing medical records, generating i.PM reports, updating electronic whiteboard information, coordinating patient transport bookings, handling telephone inquiries, and providing general clerical support to the clinical team as required.
DUTIES:
- Provide accurate, timely clerical support for Clinical Nursing Unit Manager and clinical team. Duties will include filing, typing, and photocopying, receipt/redirection of telephone messages, and retrieval of patient records, test results etc.
- Maintain stationery stock levels by ordering on a regular weekly basis. Check and maintain a good supply of prescription pads, pathology request forms, X-Ray request forms and ordinary request forms, and all stationery at staff station.
- Retrieval of laboratory results, medical records, X-rays and obtain discharge summaries from other hospitals as requested.
- Complete maintenance requests as requested by Clinical Nurse Unit Manager.
- Coordinate various services from other departments/units as requested, eg paging medical officers, ECG, mobile X-ray, blood gas, maintenance, courier etc.
- Organise transport for patients by ambulance, hire car or taxi as requested.
- Answer enquiries as to patient location within the department.
- Receive incoming telephone calls. Redirect calls, take and record messages for staff, follow through as necessary. Pass any calls of a clinical nature on to a medical or nursing colleague immediately upon receipt. Page services to department as requested/required.

ABOUT YOU:
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
- Demonstrated communication, organisational and interpersonal skills with an excellent telephone manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team in periods of high demand and activity.
- Experience with.i.PM and medical record management.
- Commitment to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
- Demonstrated commitment to own personal and professional development including update of software application knowledge.
