Calvary Healthcare Tasmania, Lenah Valley Campus are excited to announce we have formed a partnership with Charles Sturt University and are offering clinical placement positions for a Graduate Diploma in Midwifery, June 2025. This is an exciting opportunity to follow your midwifery dream.

As a Midwifery student, you will attend lectures, tutorials and residential schools through Charles Sturt University. In addition, you will work 0.8 FTE in paid clinical placement on the Maternity and Women’s Health Unit, Calvary. You will gain experience in antenatal and postnatal care, birth suite and Neonatal special care.

At Calvary we have had extensive experience in supporting and mentoring midwifery students and graduates. Key Responsibilities

  • To provide care, under direct and indirect supervision to women and their babies at all stages of pregnancy, labour birth and the postpartum period.
  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • To work within your scope, and with adherence to CHCT policies and procedures.
  • To complete coursework as required by CSU
  • Ensuring that you have allocated time for your Continuity of Care experiences around your 7-day rotating roster and university commitments

What do you bring to the role?

  • Australia citizen or permanent resident
  • Registered Nurse Division 1 with a minimum of 12 months postgraduate experience.
  • Ability to learn and take feed back
  • Desire to work as a midwife
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the requirements of the midwifery training program including Continuity of Care experiences.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills that support effective collaboration across the interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated clinical problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of NSQHS standards and how they relate to care of women and their newborn babies
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role of the midwife in applying work health and safety, infection control and quality improvement principles.
