- Salary Classification: Clinical Psychologist, Year 1 – 5 or Senior Clinical Psychologist Year 1 – 3.
- Remuneration: Clinical Psychologist Year 1 – 5 $55.09 - $67.15 per hour or Senior Clinical Psychologist Year 1-3 $70.17 - $74.19 per hour + superannuation + annual leave loading + salary packaging options.
THE ROLE:
Calvary Mater Newcastle is currently seeking a Clinical Psychologist or Senior Clinical Psychologist to join our team on a fixed-term basis until 30 June 2028. In this role, you will provide psychological support to adolescent and young adult patients (aged 15–25) diagnosed with cancer, as well as to their family members or carers. The position involves working with individuals facing a range of psychological, emotional, and medical challenges related to cancer diagnosis and treatment.
DUTIES:
- Provide an excellent standard of care by way of evidence based assessment and intervention of psychological problems for young people with cancer and their families.
- As a member of a multidisciplinary team, provide psychological assessments of all allocated patients and plan for appropriate action.
- Communicate effectively with all key stakeholders and document assessments, interventions, case plans and other significant information in the medical record.
- Engage in clinical research.

ABOUT YOU:
- Psychologist authorised to practice by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist.
- Completed or near completion of post-graduate Clinical or Health Psychology program at a recognised University. (Clinical Psychologists should have a master’s degree or higher in clinical psychology or equivalent of no less than 2 years full time study).
- Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based psychology practice for the range of psychological disorders ad problematic issues commonly occurring in adolescents and young adults in cancer.
- Experience in cognitive-behavioural therapy and other evidence-based interventions in individual and group settings.
- Ability to participate in hospital based and/or community based multidisciplinary teams.
- Interest in psycho-oncology research.
- Able to work proficiently in periods of high demand and activity.
