About the role
 

The Calvary Research Office supports and oversees research activities across Calvary’s hospitals, aged care, home care, operational services, and collaborations with external partners.

The Research Governance Officer plays a key role in reviewing, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on research governance activities. This position provides expert advice and support to researchers, assesses research proposals for authorisation, and ensures alignment with Calvary’s strategic objectives. The role also ensures all research complies with relevant Australian legislation, policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.

 
Your main duties will include:
 
  • Oversight of research governance: Implementing frameworks to review, monitor, and evaluate research activities, promoting good research practices, and ensuring appropriate systems are in place for clinical trials and other research projects, and aligned to the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, the Code for Responsible Conduct of Research, Good Clinical Practice and all other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Research Recommendation: Guiding research applications,and making recommendations to the Calvary Executive delegated with authority regarding the conduct of research.
  • Support and advise stakeholders: Providing guidance to Regional CEOs, General Managers, research staff, and other Calvary staff, Human Research Ethics Committees (HREC), site assessment teams, clinical trial investigators, and sponsors on compliance with national and local regulations, as well as Calvary Health Care research governance framework and processes.
  • Legal and regulatory compliance: Ensuring all research activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines at the institutional, state, and federal levels. This includes addressing privacy, confidentiality, and intellectual property matters.
  • Risk management: Assessing and managing financial, legal, and reputational risks associated with research, including contract negotiation, indemnification, insurance, and monitoring research conduct.
  • Ethics and quality assurance: Facilitating the approval and monitoring process for research ethics (HREC), ensuring informed consent procedures, and supporting post-approval monitoring to guarantee alignment with Good Clinical Practice and Calvary standards.
  • Policy development and training: Creating, implementing, and updating policies, procedures, and training programs to foster a high standard of responsible research conduct and regulatory compliance.
  • Administrative coordination: Maintaining records, preparing reports, processing research applications and agreements, and supporting operational aspects of research governance, including use of electronic systems.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster relationships across clinical, research, and administrative teams;providing advice and education on research governance and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Consumer and Community Engagement: Manage complaints related to research conduct in accordance with Calvary’s policy and processes.

 

 
About you
 

Essential

  • Experience in conducting, managing, and monitoring human research, including clinical trials.
  • Expert knowledge of research governance and its practical application to research projects.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory requirements for human research, including the National Statement on Ethical Conduct and The Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Proven ability to work independently, show initiative, and manage priorities in fast-paced environments.
  • Skilled in developing and streamlining processes, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and customer service skills, with the ability to build trust and listen effectively.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Catholic Health Australia Code of Ethical Standards
  • Experience in research translation and partnerships
