About the role
Join Calvary Adelaide Hospital, South Australia’s largest private hospital, and lead a passionate kitchen team delivering nutritious, high-quality meals to over 350 patients, staff, and visitors every day.
We are seeking an experienced Head Chef to oversee all aspects of food preparation and production within a large-scale, fast-paced hospital kitchen. This role offers variety and purpose – you’ll be working under pressure, but every plate you send out contributes to someone’s care and recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a team of Chefs and Catering Assistants.
- Oversee meal production across breakfast, lunch, and dinner service.
- Develop and present creative, nutritious menu options.
- Manage stock, minimise wastage, and maintain a spotless, efficient kitchen.
- Ensure compliance with HACCP, WHS, and Food Safety standards.
- Use digital systems such as Chefmax, CBORD, Delegate, or similar for ordering and menu management.
What you bring
- Cert IV in Commercial Cookery and Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
- 5+ years’ experience in large-scale catering — ideally in healthcare, aged care, or institutional settings.
- Proven experience in leading and motivating teams in a high-volume environment.
- Strong understanding of HACCP, WHS, nutrition, and therapeutic diets.
- Experience working in a hospital environment with exposure to digital food service systems.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills.
- Flexible availability — early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
