The Role:
The Deputy Head of Social Work is responsible for the provision of Social Work Services and the maintenance of professional social work standards in the Social Work Department.
The Social Work Department at Calvary Mater Newcastle plays a crucial role in supporting patients and families through some of the most challenging times in their lives. The Department consists of 22 Social Workers who work across various hospital departments including emergency, intensive care, medical and surgery, as well as haematology, oncology and palliative care; providing a 7 day per week service.

About You:
- Bachelor of Social Work or other equivalent qualification providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge and skills in psychosocial theory and assessment
- Demonstrated ability to work with patients and their carers with life-limiting and/or terminal illnesses, including at end of life.
- Demonstrated experience in a hospital setting (preferably in general medicine) and ability to undertake high level assessment and brief intervention skills within this setting.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, consultation and practice expertise for complex matters.
- Demonstrated advanced organisational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
