About the role

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of older persons and persons with a disability? selectability is seeking a dedicated and dynamic assistant cook to assist the head cook in the delivery of our new services in Aurukun. This casual role can be FIFO working a roster of 6 weeks onsite and 2 weeks offsite with meals, accommodation and travel costs covered by selectability, or if living locally, a 5 days on/2 days off roster can be accommodated. 

In this rewarding role, you'll assist in the preparation of nutritious and delicious meals that support the health and well-being of older persons and persons with a disability, ensuring their dietary needs are met with care and creativity.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • assist in preparing and cooking meals according to the aged care menu plan and individual dietary requirements (e.g. diabetic, texture-modified, allergen-free)
  • support the head cook in maintaining food safety and hygiene standards in compliance with relevant aged care and food handling regulations
  • help with plating and portioning of meals to ensure presentation and nutritional guidelines are met
  • assist in the cleaning and sanitisation of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas
  • receive and store food supplies, checking for quality and proper stock rotation
  • monitor and report any issues with food quality, kitchen equipment, or meal satisfaction
  • collaborate with care staff to ensure older persons food preferences and dietary needs are communicated and met
  • contribute to a respectful and supportive dining experience for older persons

About you

To be successful you must: 

  • work efficiently under pressure while maintaining professionalism
  • assist to prepare and serve nutritious meals for older persons and persons with a disability, considering their dietary requirements and preferences
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • excellent time management skills
  • ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • support and respect diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds

Role requirements

  • certificate in cooking or hospitality
  • experience in kitchen or food service environment
  • food hygiene/food handlers certificate (highly desirable) 
  • previous experience working in FIFO hospitality industry (desirable)
  • current nationally recognised first aid & CPR certificate
  • a current minimum P1 "C" class Queensland drivers licence 
  • a current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or the ability to obtain)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module 'Quality, Safety & You' completion certificate
