THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Mining Technical Services Superintendent, the Senior Mining Engineer mine designs, ore reserves and mine planning modelling for optimum extraction of ore in support of the Company’s open pit mine and production activity including;

Open pit mine designs including waste dumps, haul roads and ROM stockpiles.

Pit optimisation and associated cost modelling
-
Mine development sequencing, planning and scheduling.
-
Set up and maintenance of the daily dig, drill and blast planning, weekly and monthly mine production reporting systems.

Review and manage conformance to plan.
-
Review D&B designs and tie-ins.

Management of Mining Engineers and Mining Supervisor.
-
Alternate Quarry Manager during the Mining Technical Services Superintendent’s rostered absences from site.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Mining Production
-
Assist the Mining Technical Services Superintendent to implement the annual mining plan and schedule in cooperation with the Mining Supervisor and Mining Contractor’s Project Manager.

Assist the Mining Technical Services Superintendent during their absences from site with daily coordination of the Mining Contractor and conducting daily inspections of the open pit mining activity.

Ensure pit dewatering is being carried out efficiently by the Mining contractor to meet production requirements and a groundwater monitoring program is set up and maintained.
Mine Planning and Supporting Operations

Implement a Planning MOS around for the daily, weekly and monthly scheduling process.

Liaise with the Mining Contractor and PLS Technical Services team on mine design and planning for the optimum extraction of ore and to maximize the economic potential of the ore body.

Participation in daily mine planning meetings.

Develop and maintain a system for the timely and accurate collection of mine production information to contribute to the management of the mining contract, mine planning, mining reconciliation and monitoring to optimize the ore reserve.

Develop and implement mine planning procedures and systems for the mining operation.

Develop and maintain a dig, drill and blast planning system.
-
Compile daily, weekly and month end reporting.

Provide interpretative and supportive commentary for reports and recommendations to management.

Develop and maintain a system for the drilled, blasted stocks and mine production, to ensure sufficient grade and tonnages on the ROM stockpiles are always available.

Develop and maintain a system for the inspection and recording of the condition of pit walls and berms.

Assist the Mining Technical Services Superintendent in implementing the Ground Control Management Plan.
Team – Mining Engineering

Manage, supervise and mentor Mining Engineers.
-
Oversee and verify mine designs and mining schedules prepared by Mining Engineers and/or consultants.

Recommend training and liaise with the HR Department to build capability within the Mining Engineering team.

Ensure all mining engineering activity conducted by employees and contractors within the mining lease areas is conducted safely and achieves regulatory compliance.

Drive a proactive safety culture to prevent harm to personnel and company assets, monitoring and ensuring safe mining work practices and mandatory safety training for the team is completed.
Cost Management

Assist with managing expenses within approved guidelines and limits and within budget.

Assist with the review and approval of mining engineering services, geotechnical and hydrogeology consulting services and pit dewatering program cost management to ensure best investment spend and cost efficiency.

Recommend and assist the Mining Technical Services Superintendent with best investment recommendations regarding open pit mining methods, mine scheduling, mine planning and mine design activity.
Environment
-
Contribute to the mine planning and environmental impact to sustain life of mine and the responsible management of the mine resource.

Ensure environmental regulatory compliance by the Mining Engineering Team.

Lead and drive the Mining Engineering team to contribute and engender confidence in compliance with environmental management to extend life of mine.
This is a permanent full-time role based at our Pilgangoora operation, operating on a 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth.
ABOUT YOU:
-
5-10 yrs. experience in a similar role managing a Mining Engineering team.

Proficiency in using mine planning and design software, particularly Surpac and Vulcan.

Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software with advanced proficiency in Excel.
-
Proficiency in mine scheduling and associated software, particularly Alastair Tactical Scheduler.
-
Demonstrates strong leadership.
-
Degree in Mining Engineering.
-
WA C class driver’s license
-
Current proficiency in Providing First Aid
