The opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Occupational Hygiene Advisor, this role will provide technical support for the site's radiation management programs through the planning, coordination and execution of workplace monitoring, compliance activities, inspections, sampling programs and health risk management initiatives.
The role supports compliance with applicable legislative requirements, company standards and licence conditions relating to Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM), fixed radiation gauges, workplace exposure monitoring.
This is a permanent full-time role which operates on a 8:6 or 8:6/4:3 FIFO roster from Perth or DIDO in the Pilbara region.
Key responsibilities
NORM Management
- Conduct NORM monitoring activities in accordance with the Radiation Management Plan.
- Undertake radiation surveys of mining and processing areas.
- Coordinate groundwater, drinking water and environmental radiation monitoring programs.
- Conduct personal and area monitoring programs for workers within supervised radiation areas.
- Support radionuclide mass balance assessments and reporting requirements.
- Maintain transportation requirements and documentation associated with NORM materials.
- Assist with annual occupational and environmental radiation reporting.
Fixed Gauges & Sealed Sources
- Coordinate compliance inspection programs for fixed radiation gauges across site.
- Conduct routine wipe testing programs.
- Support source replacement and gauge refurbishment activities.
- Maintain inventory records, registrations and licence requirements for radiation sources.
- Coordinate radiation permits for maintenance and project activities involving fixed gauges.
- Maintain radiation survey equipment and personal electronic dosimeters (PEDs).
- Coordinate calibration and servicing requirements for radiation instrumentation.
- Support external audits and regulatory inspections.
Radiation Governance
- Support maintenance and periodic review of the Radiation Management Plan.
- Maintain personnel radiation records and training records.
- Coordinate radiation awareness training materials and training records.
- Monitor compliance with site licence conditions and legislative requirements.
- Maintain awareness of emerging regulatory requirements and industry guidance relating to radiation management.
- Support internal and external communications in regard to radiation
- Potential expansion into other radiation scopes as business growth occurs
Additional Duties
- Support with completing additional monitoring program for health hazards such but not limited to, Dust, Noise and hazardous substances
H&S
- Complete task-based risk assessments and participate in relevant risk assessment workshops.
- Ensure hazards and incidents are assessed, controlled, and reported in INX.
- Complete Critical Control verification through Forwood to drive alignment, compliance, and verification activities.
- Complete Critical Control Effectiveness Testing (e.g. ventilation systems, noise enclosures,) and provide the results to the critical control owners.
Team
- Collaborate with team members and other departmental stakeholders to align health and hygiene activities with the organisation’s overall objectives.
- Provide opportunities to enable guidance, feedback mentorship, training to facilitate professional growth and development both in office and infield with H&S members.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationship with mining health and hygiene providers.
About you
- Bachelor of Science
- Knowledge of WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022 and related legislation and codes of practice
- Driver’s license (preferably manual).
- Mines Air Quality technician
- Basic Principles of Occupational Hygiene
- DMIRS Registered Sampler
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in radiation or occupational hygiene, health and safety or related field.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Strong report writing and technical documentation skills.
- Ability to analyse data and identify trends.
- High level computer literacy.
