About the Role
The Student Support Officer (SSO) will manage the Student Support Room; a space where students are supported to use evidence based strategies to get ready to learn again. The SSO will manage data and communicate with key stakeholders in relation to students who require additional support to engage in their learning or who are disrupting the learning of other students during their regular timetabled lessons. The purpose of the role is also to lend administrative support to the Pastoral Care Team and keep other staff informed of emerging trends.
Reporting to the Assistant Principal - Senior Secondary, the SSO will liaise closely with Pastoral Leaders including Heads of Year, College Counsellors and the Student Support Teacher.
The Student Support Officer will:
- Maintain appropriate behaviours when engaging with children.
 - Assist students to use evidence based strategies to regulate energy and emotions in order to be ready to learn.
 - Maintain the Student Support Room as an environment that offers a range of evidence based strategies to assist in regulation as needed by a student.
 - Ensure students know and adhere to the behavioral procedures and maintain a quiet self-reflecting atmosphere.
 - Assess and prioritise situations promptly based upon need and respond appropriately in consultation with the Pastoral Team.
 - Monitor and Maintain electronic records and keep Pastoral Team informed of trends.
 - Be part of a team of educators committed to excellence.
 
Work Requirements
- Hold a Working with Children Blue Card.
 - Be fully supportive of the ethos of Catholic Education.
 - Tertiary qualifications at Associate Diploma level or Certificate level preferably in the areas of Youth Work, Social Work, or other related areas, as well as demonstrated relevant industry experience.
