Do you enjoy designing, building and maintaining modern data platforms? Are you keen to further develop your data engineering skills while contributing to a growing Data & Analytics capability? We’re looking for a Data Engineer to join us in this newly created role.
As a Data Engineer, you will collaborate with state, regional and national teams, as well as ICT, to enhance data product consumption, data quality and reliability. You will play a key role in developing and operating data pipelines, datasets and data products, supporting both operational and head office reporting through our Data & Analytics platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the implementation and day‑to‑day operation of the Data Platform in Microsoft Fabric.
- Design, build, test and maintain reliable, scalable data pipelines to support ingestion and transformation of data in to data products.
- Integrate data from multiple sources and technologies to support a unified, scalable data ecosystem where data is accurate, reliable and accessible.
- Assist with the design and optimisation of data models and data products to support performance, integrity and security.
- Implement data quality processes including validation, cleansing and regular checks to help maintain trusted data.
- Work with ICT and business teams to understand requirements and deliver practical, efficient data solutions that support reporting and analytics.
- Maintain clear documentation for data pipelines, data processes and solutions to support supportability and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Need (Data Engineer)
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science or a related field.
- Hands‑on experience supporting and developing data platforms e.g., Microsoft Fabric or Databricks.
- Working knowledge of modern lakehouse concepts and core technologies such as Lakehouse / OneLake / Data Lake, Spark, Data Factory and SQL Analytics (or equivalents).
- Experience building and maintaining scalable data pipelines using ETL/ELT patterns.
- Proficiency in one or more of Python, PySpark, T‑SQL
- Experience with engineering practices such as Git/GitHub, CI/CD, and working with notebooks.
- Solid grounding in SQL and relational database concepts (e.g., MS SQL).
- Exposure to agile ways of working and DataOps/DevOps practices.
- Familiarity with Power BI is beneficial.
