About the role
As the GIS Support Officer you will analyse and assess spatial data in the form of network maps, identify any key differences between two similar maps, and make changes to ensure they are aligned. The role will involve using QGIS, Spreadsheets, and tracking mechanisms to ensure that workflow has process, is recorded, and maximises quality and accuracy.
The objective is to conflate (migrate) a set of network maps (lines) from a State or Territory map to the NHVR map using a combination of automated tools and sophisticated manual tools one State or Territory at a time.
Key responsibilities of this role are: (but not limited to)
- Test and give feedback about network development tools and assist the development team to improve them.
- Analyse roads, networks, and structure data, and ensure that this spatial data is correct.
- Use OpenStreetMap when required to ensure the accuracy of roads, road names, road geometry, bridge and structures, third-party assets and other important network-related data.
- Update Road Ownership details where required using our Road Ownership tools.
- Report through to a GIS Specialist overseeing a particular jurisdiction or data set, or the Technical Lead.
- Be able to take a piece of work, manage it accordingly and meet deadlines.

About You (limit to under 5 and assume things like stakeholder management, communications etc are a given)
To be successful in this role you will possess
- Be proficient or familiar with tools such as QGIS, OpenStreetMap, and ArcGIS.
- Be able to build Network Maps, using QGIS tools and our in-house spatial mapping solutions.
- Have a broad understanding of geospatial concepts and understand GIS terminology.
- Be adept at building road features and geometry in OpenStreetMap (OSM)
- Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and lateral thinking with strong attention to detail
