About the role 

Based in Newstead the Graduate Data Engineer is responsible for assisting senior team members and stakeholder to improve regulatory processes and outcomes with data security, data engineering, data modelling, data, analysis, system engineering and object orientated programming.

This is a 2-year fixed term contract, based in our Newstead office 

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities 

Some of the key responsibilities of this role are: 

  • Undertake a wide variety data engineering related activities (technical and non-technical) at the direction of senior team members. 

  • Participate in requirements gathering meetings and other meetings as needed to accomplish objectives 

  • Write tasks and estimate work hours to accomplish business outcomes in sprint planning meetings, and then learn and adjust to improve accuracy of estimations to become a dependable member of scrum team.  

  • Build technical skills and eventually propose, develop, deploy, test, and monitor data engineering solutions with minimal supervision on your own. 

  • Read and write technical documentation, articles, and diagrams in industry standard notation.

  About You 

 As the ideal candidate, you will be a recent graduate within the last 12 months/or graduating by the end of 2024 with a degree in computers science, data engineering, or related field and a GPA of 6.0 or better.   

You’ll have no prior work experience in any IT-related roles or corporate office setting.  

You are ambitious, eager and looking to start your career in IT as a Data Engineer working on modern data platforms. You are looking for a challenge where you can utilize all your knowledge from university and apply it to real-world data solutions. You are an excellent team player, with clear communication skills and have an internal drive towards engineering excellence.  

To be successful in this role you will possess: 

  • Degree in computer science, data engineering or related field 

  • Broad understanding of data profiling, data cleansing and transformation methods. 

  • Broad understanding of Kimball dimensional data model such as facts and dimensions. 

  • Broad understanding of ETL/ELT design patterns and data warehousing concepts. 

  • Good note taking skills and ability to follow up.  

  • Demonstrated good time management skills and punctual attendance to meetings and work.  

  • Demonstrated ability to research and apply knowledge to troubleshoot and build solutions. 

  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and lateral thinking with strong attention to detail. 

  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team. 

  • Working knowledge of Azure or AWS cloud services (highly regarded)  

  • Working Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL solutions (highly regarded)
