About the role
The Data and Technology Division enables the NHVR to be a modern, data lead regulator through the development and implementation of information, data and analytics across all NHVR core functions. The division leads the delivery of best practice technology, IT operations, information, architecture and security functions as well as the execution of digital enabling solutions that support the NHVR’s vision and strategic direction.
The NHVR administers the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and has overarching responsibility for managing heavy vehicle access. Part of the legislative requirement for managing heavy vehicle access is to ensure we work with road managers to deliver an access system to enable industry to access or apply for access to road networks.
To achieve this, the Digital Enablement business unit aims to deliver consistent, streamlined and effective products and services for its customers. They partner with customers to define, design and develop solutions that deliver improved organisational efficiency and effectiveness, building a modern regulator.
As a key part of Digital Enablement, the various teams deliver industry-leading digital services for the benefit of the heavy vehicle industry. In partnership with stakeholders, they aim to deliver operational efficiency and great customer experiences through innovative customer-centred products, supporting the organisation to become a modern and effective regulator. Digital Enablement manages the development and delivery of NHVR’s digital products through a variety of different digital platforms including, the NHVR Portal, the spatial program and compliance and enforcement applications.
Digital Enablement product teams incorporate a benefits approach to program objectives. The product teams are focused on the realisation of business benefits and looks for innovative solutions to complex business problems.
Key responsibilities of this role are:
The Automation Tester will work in Digital Enablement product teams, and will:
- Design test scenarios and develop both functional and non-functional automated tests, working collaboratively within a team and independently with minimal supervision.
- Translate user stories into high-quality mobile and web application test scenarios and scripts to meet objectives as defined by the acceptance criteria.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
- Design test scenarios appropriately balancing effort against risk using positive and negative test cases.
- Create test scripts for Swift (Xcode) and Selenium.
- Develop and maintain automated test suites to improve efficiency and coverage and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.
- Create non-functional performance test scripts using JMeter.
- Ensure there is full traceability between user story acceptance criteria, test scenarios, test scripts and their respective results.
- Ensure each release is comprehensively tested prior to launch including the ability to conduct where required manual functional and non-functional testing.
- Evaluate existing applications to refactor existing automation tests, update and add new automation tests.
- Contribute to technical documents and handbooks to accurately represent application design and code.
- Evaluate and optimise documentation, processes and technologies to adapt to changing business needs, emerging technologies, and evolving best practices.
- Research and evaluate new technologies to improve processes and stay updated on the latest trends.
- Comply with WH&S policies and procedures across Australia and contribute and promote a safe and healthy work environment including relevant COVIDSafe plans (particularly if traveling).
- Adhere to all NHVR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with NHVR internal processes.

To be successful in this role you will possess
Qualifications and Experience
Essential to the Role:
- Proven experience in an Automation Test role for at least 5 years in a full-time capacity within a medium to large organisation using technologies and approaches listed above.
- University degree in the field of computer science or software engineering or possesses technical certifications.
Highly Regarded:
- Experience with REST API testing using tools like Postman.
- Experience and prior working knowledge of the heavy vehicle industry and regulatory compliance.
- Experience working in large process workflow / case management dominated systems is a positive.
- A mix of commercial and government experience.
