Job Summary
Provides leadership support to Student Accessibility Services. Oversees and coordinates disability services for all BCTC students who are deaf/hard of hearing. Partners with internal stakeholders on complex disability-related matters to ensure institution-wide compliance with the requirements of legal and institutional disability policies and procedures, as well as student access to the physical, educational and social activities of the institution.
Job Duties:
Manage Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services.
Schedule interpreters for classes and events at all BCTC campuses including Adult Ed.
Provide guidance to faculty, staff, and administration on disability issues.
Provide conflict resolution for interpreters and Deaf /Hard of Hearing students.
Serve Bluegrass Community and Technical College as Deaf /Hard of Hearing subject matter expert.
Perform interpreting in the classroom and for college programs, services, and activities.
Hire, manage and maintain a network of qualified freelance interpreters.
Maintain records in compliance with industry standards, policies, regulations and best practices.
Provide operational support to the Director of Student Accessibility Services.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field) and 6 years related experience or equivalent
Two years of experience interpreting for Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
National Interpreter Certification (RID CI/CT, CI, CT, NAD IV, NAD V or NIC, NIC- Advanced, NIC-master, CASLI).
Must complete 20 hours of professional development to maintain State Licensure/National Interpreter Certification.
Current license granted by the KY Board of Interpreters for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in accordance with KAR 39:030, Section 3.
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
Proficiency in English and PSE (pidgin signed language).
Proficiency in different modes of singing.
Compliance with the interpreter’s code of professional conduct (RID-CPC).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree (Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field).
