Job Summary
Advisors promote student success by leading personalized academic and career planning, providing guidance, assisting with course selection, and connecting students with the resources they need to achieve their goals.
Job Duties:
Advises students in exploring interests, strengths, and goals to align with academic and career pathways; refers to appropriate support services as needed.
Serves as a primary point of contact for advisees, providing clear information about educational options, academic requirements, and available college resources.
Applies sound judgment and problem-solving skills to support students navigating complex academic paths, adjusting strategies to meet individual needs.
Maintains FERPA-compliant confidentiality and handles sensitive student conversations with discretion, empathy, and professionalism.
Applies institutional policies to determine appropriate course placement and next steps that support student success.
Supports a wide range of advising-related functions, including responding to inquiries, conducting outreach, and completing additional duties assigned to promote student success and departmental goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and interact professionally with a diverse student population.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in student support and advising practices.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple student needs and meet advising-related deadlines effectively.
Self-motivated and comfortable working both independently with students and collaboratively within a team environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Forms.
